Ill buy the PDA based on the OS platform.
What Im looking for is something fast and stable w/o needing $600 of hardware to run fast and stable. I want to take notes for scool, use it for a basic .M. and audio/video playback is a MUST. video recording not necessary but audio is. I also have bad handwriting. Ive heard palm's grafitti 2 is adaptive. Would that be best for me? "

"Personally I would go with Pocket PC 03. I have an iPAQ and it would meet all the needs you stated pretty well. As far as price goes, check out the Dell Axims. They are definatly the cheapest out there. (Also you can go through the education part of their website and get something like 10% off). I work in IT and I think the pocketPC is the way to go. Palms are great at being .M.'s, but if you want audio/video functions the pocket pc will do better. I take notes, use it as a PIM, mp3 player, audio recorder, etc..."

"I am a hard core PPCer my self, so I hate to do it but I think you should look into a Sony Clie. Palm is definitely more stable. Most PPC users have to do at least one soft reset per day (the equivalent of a Ctrl-Alt-Del) due to instability or general lagginess. I think the PPC is a great platform for the enthusiast and the power user, but if you don't want to troubleshoot all the time, go for a Palm. Sony definitely makes the best Palm OS-based PDAs, especially if you are looking to play MP3s. Plus, for light usage (PIM apps and MP3) you will appreciate the battery life. I recharge my PPC at least daily.
Just to give you an idea of how I use mine, in addition to PIM I have my PPC overclocked to 530 MHz, I play emulator games for SNES, I also play Doom, Quake, SimCity 2000, Age of Empires, and some made for PDA games, I do web browsing via WiFi and soon to be via Bluetooth when I get my BT phone, I read ebooks in MS's .lit format, I war drive, I listen to MP3s and (when in range of WiFi) stream internet radio, and I also rip and encode my own DVD movies and watch them from a 512 MB SD card. Definitely more than what PDAs were originally designed for.
BTW, I have an HP iPAQ 5555 running Windows Mobile 2003 for PocketPC (the newest PPC OS). It has 128MB RAM, " screen, WiFi and Bluetooth integrated, SD card expansion, fingerprint scanner for biometric login, vibrating alarm, and the ability to expand with iPAQ expansion sleeves."
